Is the desire to be appreciated important to you?

“Everbody likes a compliment!” -Lincoln “The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.” -William James Are you well appreciated by the people you wish to give it to you? I believe that almost basic needs can be gratified like food, health, shelter, sexual needs and even money but it seems that the least gratified need of a human being is the “desire to be appreciated.” I consider this very important. The only thing you can make people do what you want is by making them want to do it. People sometimes become invalid in order to win sympathy and attention and get a feeling of importance. When you make people feel important, it is easier for you to ask them to do what you want. The importance of being appreciated is significant that even the authorities believed that this need once not met can drive people insane. This is an honest and sincere appreciation we are dealing with in the real world. The difference between appreciation and flattery is that the one is admired while the other is condemned. Give honest and sincere appreciation. (my photo of bitmoji)

It inspires me a lot to do better and to push myself to the best of my ability if I am appreciated and valued but I don't like flattery because it lessens the value of my work.

I guess flattery is different from real and authentic appreciation. We can tell the difference.

I've been told people appreciate me. However, actions speak louder than words. I've seen appreciation in how people act toward me.

That is true. Action speaks louder that words but it would have been better if the two are complemented.

@cherigucchi Yes, it would. Then you know the words mean something.

We do lot of things to others even to our friends and relatives expecting appreciation in return. Nothing wrong in that I feel.

I like to be appreciated but it should be coming from their hearts not because they just wanted to say

I Think in principle I do. I mean every one does now and then I just do not think need or want as most as other people do. I think if you going by if it is moving a society forward though, Complementary actions need to be stated if a society wants to survive.

As we contemplated how much we want to be appreciated may we also make it a habit of appreciating others
