Just want to write about my tattoos. It has been a while since I got a tattoo. No thanks to this pandemic. Anyway, this was the last Dutdutan event that was held pre-CoViD 19. This was in September 2019.
One of the booths that I visit during Dutdutan is the booth of the grandchildren of Apo Whang Od. Apo Whang Od is the last 'mambabatok' (traditional artist) until she decided to teach her grandchildren their traditional way of tattooing. Will discuss about that in a different post.
Anyway, this was the symbol that I decided to have which is a symbol for 'family'. It looks like a series of teepee huts lined up besides each other.

@rakski it is a yearly tattoo convention held here in Metro Manila, World Trade Center in Pasay to be exact.

Nice, never seen anyone do that on here. Tattoos, I do not have them, because I only want one certain one and all tattoo places say no. It should have meaning. It can be fun though, but get the meaning ones first.

You hate to have a conversation about tattoos and when you are asked about a certain piece, the best that you can answer is you had some extra cash so you decided to get it done.

Dutdot is the root word and it means to use your finger or an elongated object to poke at or mix something.
So Dutdutan has been synonymous to a tattoo and music event here in the Philippines.

Your tattoo is very nice! I saw a post of one of my friends on facebook of her having her tattoo done by Apo Whang Od. She was very proud of it after it was finished.

Apo Whang Od doesn't tattoo anymore except for her signature tattoo of three dots.

I was searching for my discussion on Whang Od and your post showed. Didn't see this before. Am not for tattooing but couldn't deny our ancestral practice of the body art as a something spiritual.
Anyway, I came upon the controversial rappler news about a certain NAS Daily who took advantage of Whang Od, and in doing so, abused our culture. Grrrr.

Yup, read about it as well. Of course NAS Daily denied it. I know Grace as she did one of my tattoos.
Foreigners continue to take advantage of us. Such is the sad state of our culture.

Apo Whang Od deserves to be enshrined as a national artist no doubt.

@allen0187 Yup. A very quiet family. Saw them at the SMX Convention Center during one of Manila Fame exhibition. Apo Whang Od tattooed as many customers as she can. The organizers were criticized for overworking the old woman.

It is a local tattoo and music festival. Last year though, it was only a virtual event because of the pandemic.

4 teepees means there's only 4 of you, a small family.
It's good she passed on the technique and they continue the tradition.

Well, not really. One teepee does not represent one family member. I would have gotten a longer one with more teepees but the artist is fairly new unlike her cousins. I was concerned the tattoo would not turn out as good as it should.
