Learning How to Save

When I was still single I have been already the coin-bank saver. Seeing my coin bank filled in little by little gives so much joy to me. I remember that my best friend also did the same thing but we both realized that she seemed so unlucky doing this. We are not sure whether it was coincidence that every time she saved money through coin banks, someone in her family got sick or having some troubles that caused her to withdrew all the money she had been saving.
Till now that I am already married and have kids, I still keep coin-bank savings. I also have money which I save in the bank and one of them is not known to my husband. It is not dishonesty but I just feel like that I have to do that for an emergency. I do not like to get money from the family’s saving when an emergency arises like when my relative needs help when it comes to money matters.
I also save that whenever I want to treat myself going to a shopping spree or even taking my family to a short trip. Sometimes my husband is always surprised where I do get that money from. I just told him that I did really prepare for that. Good thing he is not the type who always asks me about money matters. I think he is quite satisfied with the way I handle it.
Do you have piggy banks as well?

@cherigucchi , That is good as this is a form of emergency fund they have! During the demonetization of the money in India many housewives have to come out with their savings to get them exchanged from the bank, when their husbands have come to know about the savings!

It is a good practice to save. But it is also wiser to invest some of your money somewhere else and do some business because interest rates for savings is very low.

That is true. Investments can help us earn money while we save at the same time.

@cherigucchi true, also ideal to save in cooperatives. You have share, you have dividends, you have savings too.

I too have an account in bank like that. I transfer the money saved from household expenditure, my extra earnings from online sites, gifts from my family etc into that and let it sit there. I can use it for emergency fund( thank God that no emergency has made me take out from there). Mostly when it saves to a decent amount, I buy things that I want to buy but not from regular money.

I do the same thing. It is just wise that we separate our money for every expenses that we may incur.

@arunima25 Isn't funny? We save sometimes for the purpose of we can buy something that we want personally for ourselves but we always end up buying things for the house! But I love doing it.

@cherigucchi Yes, I feel good about doing that
And when they do not end up in any emergency I feel so elated to use it for something I want. I generally buy home decor items, gifts and my gardening supplies from them.
When I was very young, I started saving with coin piggy banks. I was just 6 when the idea of saving inculcated in me. And it was good as it taught me the value of money at young age. I did the same with my daughters.

I used to be like that, having a piggy banks makes your family member sick? it is all in the mind set, if you think they get sick, they will. I changed this kind of mind set and now I have a savings and no one in my family got sick with the guidance of our God.
