Gardenia: Any advice?

I've watched YouTube on how-tos about growing gadenias. Are they indoors? Or do they grow better outdoors in pots?
I grow them for the green foliage and for fragrant flowers.
So, what do you think I can still do to enrich their growth, especially during winter?

My Dad always had them outdoors. I think it depends on your climate. He had lots of heat and humidity and they did well. Never knew anyone that grew them indoors. But I suppose you could give it a try. They are gorgeous. And here is one of many articles I have read about these beauties.

I will get peat moss or pebbles. Lots of morning sun and indirect sunlight in the afternoon.
