Image captured : From own mobile and cropped. Book : Unabridged hard bind version of Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. This was not on my original reading plan. I had thought of this for my kids. Yet the kind of language was perhaps a bit more for their age. Looks like the literary style of the late 19th century was much different from now. Still Mark Twain makes the story full of interesting twists and surprises. There is fun and humor but emotions as well. Just one learning : It is better to get kids a modified version of classics and not an Unabridged one. Have a great Tuesday ahead.

My elder daughter loves to read unabridged ones for all classics. You are right. The literary style has gone a lot of transformation. Love the classic ones..I might have this in my daughters collection. Last year we donated a lot of books to our apartment library.

@arunima25 As the story is picking up, it is more delightful. But perhaps a bit tough for 10 to 12 year olds.

@arunima25 As long as one is reading regularly, reading choice is fine. Even I normally stick to Robert Ludlum and Agatha Christie!!

I think the unabridged versions are for fourth to fifth graders. My daughters borrowed from the school library almost all the unabridged versions of the classics back in grade school. We did read the books weekend afternoons. I like Tom Sawyer very much - the glorious whitewasher, and his Aunt Polly.

@eileenleyva Another problem is the American style + slang mix English whereas in Indian schools, the British version is more common. Yet it could vary from child to child!

@eileenleyva Yes a basic aptitude for learning is the basic thing. Language style comes later.

Tom Sawyer might be a good book for adults.

@marguicha It can suit grown up teenagers more but not a bad choice for adults as well.

It’s a wonderful book, but better for older kids.

@DianneN Yes more for older kids, not for younger ones.

Has been around a long time. I hope it doesn't get on the censored list.

@CarolDM What makes you think that it could get on the censored list? This is quite an old classic.

@CarolDM Hmm.. Selective censorship is hard to understand. I have seen dubious movies not getting censored but better movies being censored just because they have a strong opinion on some issues or are anti-establishment in some ways.
