What would you do?

Do you consider yourself an honest person? How far would you go to maintain your integrity? We had supplies leftover from updating our bathroom this week but I lost my receipt. We're had a limited amount of time before the invoice was purged from lowes computer system so we took them back this afternoon. My husband guessed we would get back around two hundred dollars although we couldn't remember how much we paid for the wood for the baseboards. Once they found the invoice and scanned what we brought back it came to just under for hundred dollars. Because I didn't have my receipt and didn't remember what we paid I liked it over and discovered a discrepancy on the return invoice. It turned out that they refunded us the whole amount we paid them for the flooring we put in. I checked it once, twice and three times to be sure. Now what, so I let it be and take the freebie it let them know and pay for what we used? I know many would take the freebie and it was tempting because it wasn't out fault it worked out that way. But I went back and paid for what we used. I'm a cashier and I'd want someone to let me know if I undercharged them too. What would you do in that situation? I see a lot of our customers at the grocery store where I work look through their receipt for mistakes in their favor but I wonder if they see something in their favor of they bring that to anyone's attention. Pic is the hanging basket I brought into the house for the night.

That's good to hear. I didn't want to return last night but now I'm glad I did since today the weather is even worse with rain and colder temps which I don't like. So at least it's done now.

I usually check my receipt - do a quick tote up to see if its in the right general ballpark. I have found errors both directions. I recall one occasion when I got outside to the parking lot and was loading my groceries, I discovered that there were a couple of bananas I hadn't noticed, when I was going through the cash, in the basket.. I went back to the store and asked the lady to process them. I forget what the amount was, it was quite small, but I hadn't paid for them yet. I had it happen with a bag of potatoes (you know how you put them under the cart, because they are bulky and heavy?) - I simply headed back in, and asked them to charge me for them. On another occasion, I realized after I got home, that they had undercharged me for an item. It was a store I used frequently, so on the next time round, I asked them to add the amount that was short charged to my next order.

I forgot I've done that before too after going to my car to see the sale prices on a few things I discovered an item was missed.

Yes, it may have been found out later but possibly not. Better to do things right from the get go.

Your story reminds me of what happened to my husband though a bit different . The saleslady gave him 20 tablets when in fact he just ordered for 10 tablets and paid for them. When he arrived home, he found out there 20 so he drove back to the pharmacy and returned the ten. I would do what is right as my conscience will bug me always.
