No drinking June

Hi! So I decided that for June, I am not drinking any kind of alcohol. I have been drinking too much lately, just about every night I am off - I don't get wasted - but just a bit of a buzz as I have a few seltzers or rum and diets, and I and I need to be on call for the fire dept as I train in case any calls come in - as I have to make a certain percent of calls on certain months. So, it makes sense for me when I am on call (I am on call in February, April, June, August, October, December) to abstain so I can be 100% ready and available on all of my days off. I used to do this every once in a while - I would abstain from drinking - one time, while losing weight - I abstained for *1 year*! Once you get used to it, it's fine - I feel more energetic and productive - and I am in my right mind all the time. I have to keep myself in check - so I use these times as a way to step back, refresh, take a break and detox. Doesn't mean I am trying to quit drinking totally, just taking a sabbatical. The first and second days I made myself mocktails - a virgin mojito, which was delicious and bubbly. So I might do that on my evenings off, maybe make a special club soda mocktail or some sweet decaf tea. Me and one of my coworkers were talking the other day about how OBSESSED with alcohol our society is, and how it's not common for people to just "not drink". I know for some, especially when I was in my twenties, it seemed like all my friends wanted to do for fun was drink. Go out and drink. It seemed like anything could be made FUN if drinking was involved. Think about it: dinner, bowling, camping, fishing, parties, breweries, barbeques, sports leagues, brunch, etc. I am not fully convinced in quitting drinking forever, but I do believe we don't NEED to constantly drink - because we're happy and celebrating, because we're sad, because we're bored..... I also like to keep myself in check because both of my parents were alcoholics growing up, and both are still. I don't wish to live a life like theirs. On the other hand, I enjoy cocktails and seltzers. Ha! This is why I need to take a break for a while. Also so I can attend the required 30% of calls I am required to now working for the fire department. Anyway, that's my goal for the month. Once I get through the first week or so, I'll be fine. Have you any goals this month? And, where do you stand on the drinking matter?

Good decision to pass on the liquor. No specific goals for this month other than to stay healthy.

I haven't had a drink in 30 years. At one time it ruled my life to the point I would black out. I woke up one day and said enough and haven't had any since. Don't miss it at all. I a glad you take breaks from it. Good luck.

I tried drinking liquor but my stomach can’t handle it. I get a stomach ache. That’s good you are taking a break from drinking. My goal this month is to let go of my bad habits.
