A pleasure to watch 'The Post.'

After a whirlwind of activities yesterday, my elder daughter sat me to watch a West End concert and a Spielberg film 'The Post.' How pleasurable can it get? Very pleasurable. I was glued to the tube straining my auditory nerves to hear every word, aware of the background music which, credits showed later, was another John Williams work. Do you know that he also created the sound of Paper Chase and Jurassic Park and Superman? The movie brought me back to the 'current events' of my childhood. We were given weekly news in school and the POTUS was one newsmaker I decided as a child that I didn't like. Fast forward, now I learned of the gravity of the crime that POTUS has committed to the American people. Good thing there was a woman, the owner of the Washington Post, and an editor, who courageously nixed the one-man power of the POTUS to dominate the world. Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks essayed the lead roles. Yup, as ever, very believable. A pleasure to watch.

John Williams delivered the most endearing, even if meant to scare, tunes in my youth. Jaws has a few notes in the musical score but gosh, up to now, the sound could get into me. Then there's Raiders of the Lost Ark which, when played now, I could easily relate with zest. And who would not fall in love with ET as if the music was transporting us to space? But the genius of John Williams transcends generations. The music tickled my daughters' musicality when they heard the theme from the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter). Even war dramas and serious adventures were worth watching. Saving Private Ryan and Seven Years in Tibet were Williams.
