Just the thought of giving....

Felt a little bad I wasn't able to share anything to street walkers Perla and Arnel. They are wife and husband, I learned after an awkward question I casually threw last time we talked - 'And where is your husband?' Perla simply pointed to Arnel. Sigh! I did wonder how they were related but didn't figure wife and husband. Perla is six years older. She had a stroke last year and that accounts for the older look. Perla expressed that she wanted to have snacks at night but the budget seems to be lacking for extra food. Right away, I thought of buying a raisin loaf or banana bread or mamon or ensaymada for them. The thought of surprising them with goodies made me feel so happy already. Done with my daily chores, I rested and had a second viewing of 'A Dog's Journey.' I had forgotten the story but did remember liking the melancholic saga two years back. From out of the blue, a food delivery stopped by our gate. Surprised, I was in disbelief that someone could actually be giving me food. My cousin's wife Malou was supporting her friend who recently opened an Inanas food kiosk near my place. Instead of ordering for herself, she ordered for us. Thus my stomach ballooned with Pansit Lukban (with bagnet), Lumpiang Togue, grilled chicken, and Spanish bread. What is the saying - when you give, you will receive a hundredfold? Gosh, I was just thinking of giving, and I have already received! Grateful, I spent the rest of the day watching old favorites - August Rush, Shanghai Noon, and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Yup. Same taste here. I love pansit and lumpia togue. I think I took the trait from my mother. She gave unconditionally even when she has none more to give. People also do not understand why we have to give when we also don't have much for ourselves. For me, it's the essence of Christianity.

@eileenleyva That is the most beautiful feeling. Everyone should behave like that and the world would be much more beautiful.

We give something to other, we'll receive more in return. That's what I have been taught.

I could attest to the veracity of that lesson. I give small things like a bag of bread to the destitute, on a spur of a moment, because you'd see them frail and hungry. Every time that happens, I always receive something in return. And true, blessings come a hundredfold.

Yup. The 'lumpiang togue'' came with a vinegar dip sweet to taste. Wow. I ate three rolls all at once.

Very nice that you received almost an instant reward for the good deed that you did. I guess they were happy to receive the goodies that they received.

Past the acquaintanceship phase, we are in friendship stage 1 - exchanging little things. I picked berries two consecutive mornings especially for them. This morning, Perla gave me a little oil potion to help me to sleep. I didn't expect to make new friends again.

Beautiful and true. I think it's always worth sharing that my parents taught me, although when I was little they didn't have much themselves, and they helped others anyway.

That is true giving. A recent meme on fb shows billionaires contributing to the CoViD-19 cause with percentages from their wealth, in millions of dollars. Side by side with them is an old woman who lives with her small pension. She contributed all her pension with just a hundred bucks for her to live by. People who know what it is to be in need are actually the ones who give more. Kudos to your parents for showing you how to love your fellowman genuinely.
