Welcome to the obscure side! That’s right, today’s song with “queen” in the title wasn’t a hit. That’s okay, because the song with “king” in the title wasn’t a hit, either. So you get two “album cuts” in today’s dual countdowns. Let’s start with the queen.
#8: The Queen and the Soldier - Suzanne Vega
If you didn’t notice by Suzanne Vega’s one big hit, “Luka,” she can write some very disturbing lyrics. All delivered with that sweet, quiet (almost whisper) voice of hers.
This isn’t exactly for the squeamish. While fictional, it’s a harsh look at rulers and how they play free and easy with their subjects. And it doesn’t matter if they’re called “queen” or “senator” or “prime minister.”
“I want to live as an honest man.” Who doesn’t. But who can, with the corruption in power.

@DianneN — I saw a meme on Facebook that said “maybe these kids are so angry because their music sucks.”
And maybe “everybody must get stoned” IS a happy ending for some.
