Day 6 Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, “Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them who bless thee, and curse him who curses thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” 4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. 5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan, they came. 6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land. 7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, “Unto thy seed will I give this land:” and there built he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him. 8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he built an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD. 9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south. When you set out to do something, do you always have a plan? Or do you just do it and hope for the best? God told Abram to leave his country and his family, and go where He led him. Abram did what God told him, though not completely. He took his family with him when he left. When they arrived in Canaan God told him He would give the entire land to his seed, and Abram built an altar. Abram built two altars and called on the name of the Lord. As previously discussed, prayer is communication between two people. God talked to Abram and Abram responded through obedience. He left everything he knew and Ur of the Chaldees where his family lived and journeyed to Canaan. Upon arrival in Canaan, God talked with him again. Abram responded by building an altar and calling on God’s name. As Christians, you get directions and instructions from God. He lets you know the plans He has for you. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. God’s plans don’t always look feasible. You might wonder how you will accomplish what He set in place for you. Yet, when you respond as Abram did by leaving everything and doing what God told you, you will arrive right where God planned and you will see His promise for you at the same time. What has God told you to do? Are you doing it? Or do you have excuses about why you can’t or do you believe the instructions you received weren’t from God? There is a saying in the Christian community. God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called. It isn’t your responsibility to have all the resources in place when God calls you to His work. It’s His. He will show you how to gather everything you need and He will lead you. Your only responsibility is to follow where He leads.
