Heavy smokers 'must quit totally' ......Smokers please note

Those who smoke or are trying to quit smoking please note: There are no half measures for heavy smokers wanting to minimise the risk that their habit will lead to their early death, research suggests. Scientists found no evidence that heavy smokers who halve their daily cigarette intake cut their premature death risk. The long-term Norwegian study, of more than 51,000 men and women aged between 20 and 34, found stubbing out was the only way to cut the risk. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6187388.stm

I've been a pack a day smoker for the past 11 yrs. I've tried to quit a few times, but everytime i fail. Now, i desperately want to quit and so does my husband (although the doesn't look too sure..) because we wanna to try and become pregnant. I asked my family doctor to give me a prescription for patches, which he did, 4 months ago..and i still didnt' fill out the prescripion. I'm always like "oh, next week.." I know i should quit, for my healt, for those around me, and for my future baby, but it is hard...and to say, at the beginning, i called myself a social smoker, and could quit whenever i wanted...it lasted about 1 yr before i got really addicted.

It always starts with a single innocent puff and then social ... before you realise you are addicted. So it is best to not try it at all. This should be a strong message for teenagers. Prevention is better than cure.

I know all the facts and I don't like to be lectured .Whether I smoke or not is nobodys business but mine.I know what I'm doing to my body.I have tried to quit believe me,it's not that easy. You can throw as many facts at me as you like but until I am ready to quit it's not going to work.

It does not matter whether you smoke one or ten, it can affect your health adversely. It depends on your body. So don't take chances, quit today.

At the end of the day, if the smokers want to smoke, then their going to smoke. As also stated it's like the obese people ordering burgers in McDonalds - it's their choice! I would like it to cut down and can't wait for the new law to be inforced so us non-smokers can come home with smoke-free clothes. There's nothing worse than going out for a night out and coming home with clothes that reek of smoke wether you've been around smokers or not. However, Like I said it's their choice but the sooner the new law is bought over to the UK the better :)

As much as I know smoking is bad for my health and has caused damage to me over the yrs (I started smoking when I was 8 I'm 36 now) in all honesty I really have no desire to quit at this point...once I know I'm in the clear with my other addictions (meaning they no longer have any control over me) then I'll consider it but right now its just not something I'm worried about really

If you have tried to quit smoking and failed before, take comfort in the fact that most smokers fail several times before quitting successfully. Your past failures are not a lesson that you are unable to quit. Instead, view them as part of the normal journey toward becoming a nonsmoker. so dont give up it all depend on ur will power have a nice day....
