Sports and Game events are often about big winds. Unexpected and expected ones. They are about upsets. Losses and Big Losses. And controversies. Yet in Sports and in my case with a lot of Focus on Cricket, there are often things that might not come in any of the above categories. But these are worth watching or talking about even after a number of years. In this respect, I remember a partnership in a test match cricket. Played in CapeTown - Newlands ground between 2 and 6 January 1997. This was one of 222 runs of 228 balls between the two mainstays of Indian batting for a number of years in the 1990s - Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Azharuddin. The Indian team had lost 4/5 early wickets in response to a big South African total of 529 runs. Then came Sachin and Azharuddin (also known as Azhar). They responded with a flurry of shots- cover drive, drive of backfoot, lofted shots, leg glance, on drive, straight drives and even Hook and Pull shots. They frustrated the likes of Shaun Pollock, Brian McMillan, Lance Kluesner and Allan Donald. I even saw Azhar pulling and hooking against one of the best Protea bowler Allan Donald! Here is the link : If you like an attacking brand of cricket, you would enjoy it.

@Butterfingers We had Venkatesh Prasad and Javagal Srinath who used to bowl a lot and were kind of overloaded. Still Indian batsmen like Rahul Dravid and bowlers played superbly in this series' third match at Johannesburg, but South Africa managed a draw. Some of my friends were then discussing that Sachin Tendulkar as a captain was not so good with some field placements and strategies else India could have even won that match. But well we can only speculate !

@Butterfingers Yes but India has had a better stream of bowlers - especially pacers since 2000s.
