What's the Deal with Horns? (especially Loki's, but also on Devils & Imaginary Vikings)

I guess people first saw horns on goats and rams, and associated it with that sort of metaphor. I also hear that often when sculptors sculpted angels, the middles of their halos would wear away leaving the two parts of the halo sticking out of the heads like horns. As for Loki: Tom Hiddleston says that they'll explain it in a soon upcoming episode (episode 4 or after).

I was told once, but I completely forget now. But horns make the people seem more dangerous. Or there's also the assoasion with the devil and how horns can be a sign of evil. And, Vikings did tend to be repersented as "evil" even if that was far from the truth.
