I don't think that people marry after getting to know each other only online. They'll meet in person if they're interested in each other and then they'll see what the other person is like. Of course, people can lie online, but people can - and also do - lie in real life, too. Marriage swindlers have alwas existed. A young woman who lives in my house met a man online. They met in person and liked each other. They married and now have two children.

Regarding your comment, I can tell you that openly trusting someone you know through a chat or through the network is not sensible. It is true that person-to-person communication (not virtual) we also find false people, people who have bad intentions and dark interests, but the difference is that when we look someone in the eye, we look at their appearance, their facial expression , many times we can discover the falsehood of people and walk away, or be more careful in our actions. In the same way, when we interact through the network we can meet wonderful people, as in the case of this site, where I have found great people, but that process of meeting people does not happen further, because there will always be a lack of information and that touch of intuition, which is only allowed by direct contact with people.

I have not tried any dating app since I am already married and do not need to find a new one right now. But I heard there are some lucky ones that they find their someone there. But like you, I also doubt how many of those successful ones compared to those that didn't have a good experience with those apps. I am sure that those that have a bad experience won't tell their experience out of shame.

Online dating is not safe.People lie about who they are.

I have never tried using a dating app so am not sure about that but I prefer if I meet my significant other in normal day situations.

Some would really find their soulmates online, but always put in your mind that most of people on dating site is just finding fun and enjoyment. Nothing more. But maybe there's rare person who's really sincere too.
