From the mouth of a babe.

Time was, the orphans were my world. Whose children were they, I believed mine.
In my diary, eight years ago, I wrote:
Today, at the orphanage, the children were asked to say their own personal prayers. I was waiting for anyone to ask for something, like perhaps a family, or a toy, or a dress, or a trip outside, but no, I didn't hear anything like that, but instead, Baby, who is 9 years old, thanked the Lord for enabling us, Sister Rita and I, to get to visit them and pray the rosary with them, and she asked God to keep us safe, away from evil or danger, and that God blesses our families safe and sound. I was so touched.

The children were for international adoption only. Two sisters had been adopted a few years back and are now in Indianapolis.
The bigger girls were given tasks in a school supported by a family from Europe. I believe the children are in safe hands.

A child's prayer comes from the heart. Baby's pure heart was a grateful one.

@Vikingswest1 I was initially stunned. I couldn't believe what I was hearing - a prayer for me and Sister Rita, and our families! It's like I was being enveloped by an angel's wings.
Yes, it was so touching. Such sweet and loving words to live by the rest of my life.

Thank you. I miss the smiles on their faces and the genuine hearty laughter as they watched Sister Rita (passed away in April) dance . The children were so easy to please. And when they embrace, they hug tight and long as if they wouldn't want to let go.

@HazySue When the pandemia is over and we could visit the children again, I will bring food and read them stories again.

@eileenleyva It is so easy to become attached to a child that needs you. I know they loved you and miss you too. They will have memories follow them to their (hopefully) forever home.

That is true. That is why I consider the children as the most wondrous of creation.
Thanks very much. This unworthy caretaker is humbled by the prayer.

I was astonished to hear the prayer. A child's prayer comes from the heart.

If only the adults could become like the little children again, then it would be a wonderful world.
By the way, I think that's the liturgy yesterday or the other day - “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you change and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” From Matthew, I believe.

Despite their being orphans, true, the children were sweet and charming and caring. They loved to laugh and play. When we came, they were all ears, wanting to listen to many tales of long ago.
