When The Phone Rings, Are You Patient When No One is There?

I have noticed a new trend in solicitation calls, and even calls from places where I do business. I will get a call, answer usually on the first ring since my cell phone is almost always in my hand, and no one is there. I guess they never expect someone to answer on the first ring. Their expectations are not my problem. If I get a phone call, take the time to drop what I am doing and answer it, and hear nothing when I say "hello," I hang up instantly. If I call someone and they say "hello," you can bet your bottom dollar, I'm going to respond instantly. I didn't interrupt the person' life just to make them wait. This is a huge reason why I love text and messenger services. I love phone calls from my friends and loved ones, but unexpected calls that move slowly, not so much. Do you feel it's direspectful not to be ready, the moment the caller answers the phone?

I'll say hello twice and then good-bye if there's nothing coming through.

If the caller hasn't responded by the time I've said hello for the second time, I'll hang up. It's rude when they aren't ready after making the call. It's different today, I just don't answer for numbers I don't recognize. If it's important they will leave a message.

I think it is, but you also have to take into consideration when a scammer calls you, they will hook you up to a recording. This is the delay when a phone call is answered. It's rare you're going to talk to an actual person.

I will usually hello and wait for two seconds. Usually if the person is to speak, he or she will do so within 2 seconds.

@danishcanadian I feel that it is disrespectful not to answer someone when you are the one calling and not playing with the phone or using it as a toy.

I know how you feel since when a caller does not answer the phone after I say "Hello" to them and either hangs up or is silent does bother me a little bit.
