Baseball so stuck in its traditions I am surprised this actually happened. I do not know maybe its my whiteness speaking but not the worse name describing Native Americans. Indians, what they were called in the 1800's and 1900''s, by white people. I am not sure if it was meant as a put down. What if meant formidable foe? Why I thought their name is not the worse like the Red Skins, that is racial and can tell from a mile away. Anyway, the true Native Americans had a problem with that one too. Why the name change. So if keeping score other than college maybe, the only professional old school Native American team left is the Atlanta Braves and who does not like being called Brave. I know Florida has the Seminoles in college, not even sure what that means, but does not sound bad. I do not see their name changing and their was some who took the opposite approach, even in old days who respected the crap out of Native Americans. The Cleveland Indians baseball team, starting next year will be known as the The Cleveland Guardians. Something about a bunch of Statues on the interstate that leads into the city that is said to be guarding the city, that is pretty cool I thought. Good name change. I am pretty ignorant on this issue though. You should respect the ones that come before you and the ones that were here first is all I know.

Guardians is a cool nickname since it does have connections to the city like Cowboys are to the city of Dallas Texas and Texans to Houston.

That is true and why I never took such offense, it was the times then. I get why Native Americans take offense but those names, sometimes racist were representative of the times and one reason why baseball never likes change. It is like a history lesson. Times always changing though and we supposed to learn from our mistakes, so a name change here is probably a good thing. Plus, its like you won, no need to torture a society that is just different from you anymore.

I am part Cherokee and would be proud to have anything named Cherokee Indians. We are turning into a nation of whiners

Always were. lol My rule is if they are the ones that are requesting it then it is fine, but if it some liberal white person speaking for them then leave it the hell alone. That Cleveland one was just kind of out of no where.
