I do and I hate it! I get very paranoid this time of year about touching metal door handles, etc. I try to touch a piece of wood before touching anything metal. I don't just get a little zing, I get big zaps and, at times, you can even see the sparks! Reminds me that I need to get a small piece of wood to keep in my purse...doors at the mall have no wood aroudn them and I got zapped but good the other day entering the mall.

wood helps? i've been touching things with a little key first to help absorb the shock. After a while, it puts me in a bad mood and I know I look like an idiot when I touch everything with my key

Yes, wood is a grounding source so removes the charge without causing you any discomfort at all. You need to rub your hand over the wood or be holding onto wood at the time you touch the metal. Before I quit work, I always held on to the window ledge(which was wood) before touching the door handle.

The only place I have problems with this is at work. The girl who works with me has the same problem. I think it is because we are the only people who walk on a very small carpeted area, we are surrounded by electronic and metal, and I am pretty sure everything is not ground properly. Once I leave work I am safe (thankfully). I normally get shocked at least 10 times in a five hour work day. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't hurt!

You can also get those anti-static clothes sprays. You can spray the carpet in your work area with that and that should help. I think that I've heard something also about some kind of water....deionized maybe? Put it in a spray bottle & use the same way.
