Day 57
Deuteronomy 26:12 When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;
13 Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the hallowed things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the Levite, and unto the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them:
14 I have not eaten thereof in my mourning, neither have I taken away ought thereof for any unclean use, nor given ought thereof for the dead: but I have hearkened to the voice of the LORD my God, and have done according to all that thou hast commanded me.
15 Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given us, as thou swore unto our fathers, a land that flows with milk and honey.
Why do you pray? For most people, it’s because they have specific needs. One reason most people neglect prayer is that they don’t see the needs around them.
In his final dissertation with Israel, Moses reminded them of all the laws God gave them. One such law was the law of tithing to provide for the stranger, fatherless, and widow so they could live. They were to bring their tithes every three years. When they did, they were to remind God they kept His commandments so He would bless them.
As Christians, you don’t have the year of tithing, but you have the poor who need your help. You are not to close your hand against them, but help them as God has blessed you. When you do, God will bless you and give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 112:5 A good man shows favor, and lends: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
6 Surely, he shall not be moved forever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.
9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.
10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remains forever.
10 Now he who ministers seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
11 Being enriched in everything to all bountifulness, which causes through us thanksgiving to God.
When you give to others, God will give to you.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal, it shall be measured to you again. (KJV)
Open your hand. Show mercy to those in need, and God will bless you.
Let’s pray: Father, remind me of the blessings You gave me and let me be a person with an open hand for those in need. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
