Day 59 Joshua 5:13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, “Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?” 14 And he said, “Nay; but as Captain of the host of the LORD am I now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, “What says my Lord unto his servant?” 15 And the Captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, “Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou stand is holy.” And Joshua did so. Do you recognize important people when you see them? Many people flock to them to get a glimpse of or an autograph if they get close enough. A Man came to Joshua with instructions. Joshua didn’t recognize him until He spoke. When He did, Joshua fell on his face and worshiped. As Christians, you look for signs that God is with you. The man told Joshua who He was, the Captain of the LORD’S host. You know Him as the pre-incarnate Jesus. Only one other time was someone told to take off their shoes because the ground was holy, and that was Moses at the burning bush. Do you take your shoes off and worship God when He stands in your midst? Do you know when God is in your midst so you can worship Him? Jesus told His disciples He was in their midst whenever two or three people gathered together for prayer. Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Many people don’t recognize God is in their midst until someone says something. Then they worship Him and pray, giving thanks for Him. The only way you can know God is in your midst is by spending time with Him. Joshua knew the Captain of the LORD’S host because he spent all his time in the tabernacle with Moses. He knew His voice because he was there when God spoke to Moses. When you spend time in Bible study and prayer, you will know God’s voice when you hear it. You won’t question who He is. You will know and you will worship as Joshua did. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for being my God. Thank you for being where I am. Help me spend time with You so I can always recognize You when You speak to me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 11 August 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay.

Is it Michael the angel appeared to Joshua?

No. Michael wouldn't have allowed Joshua to fall on his face in worship. Only God allows that. The Captain of the Lord's host has always been known as the pre-incarnate Christ. Joshua also calls Him Lord. He wouldn't call an angel, Lord.
