A hiker that suffered a broken leg while hiking in Mount Chase in Penobscot County fell down on Monday afternoon. Thanks to an alert volunteer who notified the Maine Game Wardens of the incident, the hiker whose name and gender were not mentioned was assisted by four game wardens who climbed a mountain and met with the first responders who were taking care of the injured person. The game wardens called for help from the Maine Forest Service helicopter crew to get the injured hiker off of the mountain and take the injured person to a local hospital. The method used to get the injured hiker was to clear a path so that the helicopter could send a paramedic and forest ranger by using a chainsaw to have an opening to rescue the trio. When the helicopter crew rescued the injured hiker from the scene of the accident, the injured hiker was taken by ambulance when the helicopter landed on a gravel pit nearby. The condition of the injured hiker is not known at this time. I am sure that the injured hiker is grateful that the volunteers as well as the first responders and game warden were able to assist him or her to get out of a very tough problem.
