For the longest time, I've been wanting to buy a memory foam pillow but I'm always quite hesitant, thinking it might not work and I'll end up wasting money. But this time, I saw it on sale at my recent mall visit so I decided to finally buy one and give it a try. I have a reversed neck curve and scoliosis. I suffer from chronic neck and shoulder pain. Most of the time, I wake up with neck, shoulder, and backaches, pains, and stiffness so I am always on the look for a good pillow and mattress that would help me sleep in the best and most comfortable position and support my neck and spine. Fortunately, the memory foam pillow seemed to have cradled my neck just fine that I felt the tension in my neck muscles reduced greatly and I wake up free from pain most mornings. Glad that I made a buy which I did not regret lol

This may give you short time relieve from pain but trust me you should avoid sleeping on memory foam pillow or mattress...Instead you should sleep on pillows made with organic cotton, that were used traditionally..it may be hard and you will feel little discomfort at first but later you will be fine with 0% stiffness in neck or shoulder

I've had cotton pillows. But they don't work that much for me. The filling material is not enough to hold and support my head at a healthy angle while asleep. It may be okay for those who don't have neck issues but for me who has a reversed neck curve plus scoliosis, I need the most support where it matters. It's just not firm enough to hold, balance, or alleviate pressure points. The orthopedic pillow seemed to have worked the best for me. Well, maybe because it was designed for that purpose. It made a big difference with how I feel when I wake up in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

@pitsipeahie you should visit a physiotherapist for a check up and he/she may recommend you accordingly

I actually don't know how memory foam is supposed to work, or what it does... What's it supposed to do anyway? What's the difference between it and a regular pillow?

@pitsipeahie Ok. But why is it called memory foam/pillow? After you've used it the first time, does it keep that shape? This is where I get confused because... what if I then move/change position, will it keep the first shape? Won't that be uncomfortable then? Or will it conform again and so change to a different shape?

A memory pillow has a contour designed to conform to the natural alignment of the neck and spine to reduce tension/pressure/aches. Beneficial for those with neck issues or those who suffer from neck pains. Actually, there's no 'best' pillow for everyone. It still boils down to individual comfort, support and need. Stick with whatever works best for you.

I'm glad that it is working for you... I have one too but I found that flipping it was more comfortable and have been using it for ages.

In our place we keep our pillow in the sunlight. It helps in soothing neck pain. You could try it if you wish.

Yes, we do that regularly with pillows. It's a good way to kill dust mites and deodorize any smells but does nothing to support the supine position of the neck and spine. Such things are dependent on the material of a pillow. Normal pillows just don't give me the support I need for my neck.

Do you sleep on your side? It's October now. Does it still help? By the way, how do you clean/wash it?

Yes, I do sleep on my sides too and I’m still using the pillow. It’s been two months since I bought it, I haven’t washed it so far but I have left it under the sun for hours to disinfect and aerate. Instructions says never to wash in a washing machine it will damage the pillow. If you wash it, you just submerge in soapy water and dry outdoors under the sun and air.
