I am a short haired person who longs to have long hair. For practical reasons I have kept it short, it grows slowly so the untidy phase of growing it takes a long while. When working in an office there was no question of looking untidy. so I kept it short.
since I retired I have gone throughs stages of trying to grow my hair. But my husband likes it short, my hairdresser likes to cut it so once again I have met with failure.
However, the Covid curse has kept me away from crowded places and my hair has begun to grow longer than ever before. Now I find that long hair is untidy most of the time unless I tie it back. I am too old for a pony tail and anyway my hair is not long enough or thick enough to be describe in that way. Just an elastic band and some clips. Not a pretty sight. How have other ladies of more mature years managed to grow their hair and remain attractive?

I've had long hair for quite a while (for me). I can't remember the last time my hair was above my shoulders.
My mother always wore her hair in a ponytail because of a huge scar/dent on her head.

Either one is fine for me.
As a hairdresser it really just depends on the whole picture of your face and preferences.

Ah well. That's the clincher right there. Those last two words.
I must confess, I don't really care about "remaining attractive", or being tidy even...

So... yeah, I have really long hair right now. Been that way for years. Because I don't really go to parlors anymore to have a haircut.
(This began way before the pandemic started.) I cut my own hair so... I only ever trim the ends every once in a while because I can only cut that which I can move to the front so I can see what I'm doing.
(I'm a homebody, by the way...)

My mom also prefers shorter hair now, for practical reasons as well. I'm okay with both styles but long hair is too tedious to maintain.

Long hair is not untidy unless one ignored to take care of it . I appreciate both long and short I had long hair but now I cut it short both styles are good!

I think if it is well groomed and frames your face it is fine. It just looks bad on older people if it is just lank and not styled.

I used to have a long hair, but then life becomes busy, so I keep it at shoulder level.
