Pandan leaves have a flavour that resembles basmati rice. Basmati rice is normally used for preparing biryani. Compared to other varieties basmati rice is expensive. To get the basmati rice flavour pandan leaves are used but the rice used is ordinary. The guests think the biryani is made using basmati rice and praises are showered. Will you tell your guests that it is not basmati rice when in fact you have used the pandan leaves for the flavour?

Thanks for telling this secret. That you can get the smell and flavour of Basmati just by adding these leaves was not known to me. We may have these leaves in our backyard. I will have to check.

That's an interesting fact. Thank you for sharing. If I were to use the leaves instead of basmati, I'm not sure I would give away my trade secrets.

Pandan leaves are a must-have item in my house. I use them to make a local dish called nasi lemak. The leaves give the rice a very nice aroma. They're popular for making desserts too.

I've never used pandan leaves when cooking rice.. Would it make a difference if pandan essence is used instead

pandan leaves are also in your place? but I don't know if it's the same or just the same name. Because what I see here is rather large, usually used to add flavor to food. "Pandan flavor"

Wow. I didn't knew about this leave. Thanks for sharing. That's why I thought it odd when I went to a biryani restaurant. The rice they made with was small like regular rice and yet the taste was of basmati. I thought it was a kind of basmati rice. Although I thought basmati always has long grains. Now I know why. Thanks!
