Although originated in China 10,000 years ago Black rice has found its way in India and elsewhere. It is black in colour and tiny in size. Once cooked it gets a purple hue.
When I read about it on the Net I got curious and checked whether it is sold online and Amazon in was selling it I am a foodie and so wanted to try this out and ordered for a kilo.
I prepared the kheer (porridge) just like I would using broken wheat. - pressure cooked it as the rice would otherwise take hours and added the usual - milk, sugar, raisins, cashew nuts, a touch of cardamom and a dash of ghee. Had it for breakfast this morning.
Black rice can be used in making many other dishes.
Tastes nice The Net is singing praises of its health benefits.

Are there any side effects?. How does one differentiate between glutinous and that which is not glutinous?

@allknowing never hear side effect from eating the glutinous one. Also, I would just refer to the packaging

That is why I pressure cooked it and then added the required ingredients. Glad to know it is good for the joints too.

Your recipe for porridge looks yummy. We buy black rice and mix some of it with white rice when cooking rice

No issues with Amazon as it is not available here locally. It was quite tasty.
