My knees have no more cartilage

The last time I went to the doctor, he told me that my xrays showed that the cushioning cartilage on the outsides of my knees had worn away, that my bones are now rubbing together. The other side was almost as bad. I really don't want a knee replacement, but there are temporary measures that can delay that need. I saw how bad my mother's knee replacement went and don't want that for myself. Although odds are, I'd fare better than she did because I don't have osteoporosis like she did. That caused much of her problem in addition to the doctor ordering the wrong size knee. Still, that has kept me from ever wanting to have it done at all. My next doctor's appointment is on the 21st, so we shall see how that goes. In the meantime, I'm using a cane that has helped far more than I expected it to.

It made Mom’s worse and she never regained full use of it. They had to drain blood out of it every few weeks.

@jerzgirl Well you have to do what you have to do I guess. Nowadays though sometimes they can just replace the bad parts of your knees. Sometimes they don't have to do the whole thing..but maybe you need something like a total knee replacement. It kind of sounds that way.

I never thought I would need help except that I’m knock kneed and new knees would fix that.

@snowy22315 It’d be nice if they could replace the cartilage instead of removing and replacing. I’m surprised that hasn’t been developed by now.

Me, too. He's planning on an injection in my knee that I hope isn't steroids since that pushes blood sugar levels up. I've heard there are alternatives, but I don't know what they are.

I have a similiar problem with my right knee. I've avoided a knee replacment, by using a wheelchair out in public. It also has the added benifit of allowing me to both sit and move.

I’ve sometimes used them when I’m somewhere with too much walking. If I go shopping where they have electric carts, I definitely used them. Otherwise I have to lean in the shopping cart.
