'Icing on the cake'

The expression 'Icing on he cake' is used when we get a bit more than we have bargained for. When there is a celebration be it a wedding,birthday, anniversary, etc. then the cakes have icing. The question is what does one do with the icing. I hardly know anyone eating that icing. I don't. Do you?:
