Things that are hard to explain to foreigners?

Recently I was presented with the predicament of trying to explain/describe cottage cheese to a Japanese girl visiting my college. It was harder than you might think! I mean, your first instinct is to say cheese, obviously, but think about it... cottage cheese is not really like any other cheese. But you also don't want to say "the stuff that forms when milk is left to curdle" because that doesn't sound like something anyone would want to eat! In any case, she was still convinced it was probably like rice, even though I was eating it mixed with fruit. _____________________________ Have you ever had to explain something to a foreigner with little to no success? Non-Americans, this question goes for you too! What is something unique to your country that we Americans would have a hard time understanding?
