Metallica - Enter Sandman

I was just listening to the radio and they are having a celebration of the eponymous Metallica album released 30 years ago. I love that album and it still creates shivers down my spine. But one song in particular brings back a memory that always makes me smile. My then boyfriend had recently moved to a new part of the country for a new job and had found a nice house to share with two Irish guys, one of whom worked in the same company as him. They seemed nice but as yet he (or I) didn’t know them very well. The boyfriend had then gone out and celebrated his move by buying a new stereo, which he had proudly installed in his room just before I came to visit. Of course he wanted to test/demonstrate/show it off, although it was quite late in the evening. So he put on the Metallica album and turned the volume to what he thought was fairly low so as not to disturb his new house-mates. The first track, ‘Enter Sandman’ started with its relatively quiet introduction and then suddenly, in came the drums and loud guitars. The song on YouTube doesn’t really seem to display the same variation in sound as the album on a good quality stereo system - the loud parts were really LOUD even at a volume setting of 3 or so. But instead of quickly adjusting the volume to something less wall-shaking, what did the boyfriend do? He dived onto the bed and pulled the covers over his head! How we giggled! Childish I know. But the memory still makes me chuckle. And the housemates turned out to be two lovely guys so everything worked out fine in the end. All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2021.

it must be fun with friends enjoying Mettelica's song... especially when someone is surprised and laughs together afterwards
