9/11 Patriot Day - may we never forget

I know I'm a bit behind ... but a few days ago was the 20 year anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center. I think everyone who is old enough remembers what they were doing. I was 19 and we lived on the farm where I grew up. We had plans to go out of town that day to visit family friends, a few hours drive to the south ... and I was anxious to drive as I had only recently begun driving and had my own car. My dad had the news on the radio, and heard about the plane hitting the first building, so he went to turn on the tv. I knew right then that something major was going on, since at that point in time the tv wasn't on during the day, only for evenings. We carried on our day, but I remember gassing up in the small town in southern MN - people were in line and putting gas in milk jugs and buckets. Gas had jumped from .99xgallon to 1.99xgallon and was even higher in larger areas. Later hearing about the heroics of people aboard the flights and first responders and the loss for the family and friends of those fallen truly life changing. Where were you and what were you doing? I was at home in Metairie Louisiana when I woke up just after lunch shocked that I was living a nightmare that our nation was having the same experience when the sneak attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor back in 1941.

@FayeHazel The reason I remember it because on the anniversary of that tragic incident on the military channel in Panama called Southern Command Network they would play the reel of that incident.

Oh wow. I hadn't thought of Pearl Harbor - but yes that makes sense, our nation, under attack on our own soil.....

I was sleeping, woke up to see it on the tv, after having a 'nightmare' of seeing people with their hands sticking out of tons of concrete.Yes RIP all may we never forget.

Wow, did you have the nightmare before you found out? Almost like a premonition?

I answered this when another person posed the same question. I was in my jounor year of high school. For some reason, that morning we had standardized testing. It wasn't until lunch I found out about it. By then, four planes had crashed, both towers were completely gone, and the clean up and search for life begun.

I was at work at our local health department. Someone who had a small TV in her office ran in to tell us. We found a TV somewhere and like everyone, we were in shock. After hearing about the Pentagon, I remember a flash of fear for what else might happen.

Like many, you also have memories of that awful day. I was in school teaching. My son began his career in NYC the day before and saw the first plane hit. His future wife had left the WTC 15 minutes before after borrowing her friend’s sneakers because her shoes hurt. Her friend wasn’t lucky that day.

Oh wow. Your son saw history. His future wife was so lucky. She must have been close when it happened. I'm happy they were both ok
