Do you know what prayer means?

As our days become filled with bizarre events, prayer has become an imperative activity we engage ourselves into.
What is prayer?
Prayer is simply a lifeline to God; a communication between the mortal and the Supreme Being.
Poetically, a young lass from Lisieux called Therese defines prayer as the 'surge of the heart; a simple look turned towards heaven; a cry of recognition and of love embracing both trial and joy.'
Hmmm. Too deep.
That means prayer is our way to heaven.
Which presupposes that every time we come to pray, we must remember that we come to face a judgment with our God.
So do not take prayer lightly. When we pray, we must grow in grace.

I pray daily and several times a day, sometimes like a ritual and most of the time it is a heartfelt thanks to Almighty for all that he has provided.
Prayer is my way of connecting to Him.
Prayer is my way of connecting to Him.

That is really the best take on prayer - making prayer a way of life, as in embedded in our being. The Almighty truly wants us to connect with Him all the time.

@arunima25 That is true. Prayer brings one to a state of being where one feels peace and enlightenment. It's like transcending into a realm where we can feel the presence of our Creator.

@eileenleyva I agree. And we always seek that blessing and inner peace and enlightenment. Prayer is a means for that.

Yes, it's our dialogue with our God. Sometimes, when am done talking, I go to the better part - listening.

Why ever not? Care to tell about a misgiving?

@dya80dya Our God loves us all very dearly. He created us in His Image and Likeness. He will never leave us.
As we go through the trials of life, our frustrations increasing as our dreams fail to materialize, our prayers seem to have been lost to oblivion, we must always keep in mind that our God allows such things to happen to test our mettle. It is more likely that our prayer is one way - just asking for self-serving petitions. A prayer must be a communication. Listen also to what God is saying.
Hope you'd hear Him today.

@eileenleyva I am not sure why it doesn't work. I prayed for 10 years and the opposite of what I asked for happened. I wish I can feel peace or other positive feelings when I pray. But I feel nothing when I pray. I feel abandoned by God. He doesn't answer my prayers or maybe the answer is no.

Yes. As John Damascene said. ' “Prayer is the raising of the mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God.'

@kearabilwe Yes, a beautiful way of describing prayer. John of Damascus was a medieval Theologian.
If only people studied and listened more to the teachings of the the fathers, we would be living beautifully in prayer also.
Glad you take time to communicate with God.

That is good. Prayer truly erases the delusions in life that leads us to mental/spiritual/emotional/physical instability.
Reading through the stories and verses in the Great Book tells us no problem insurmountable that we cannot overcome.
With prayer, we reveal ourselves to God and God reveals His loving Mercy to us.

True.
My favorite evening prayer is....
Every night before I sleep, I pray my soul to take
Or else I pray that loneliness is gone when I awake.
Hear, o Lord, the sound of my call.
Hear, o Lord and have mercy.
My soul is longing for the glory of You
Hear, o Lord and answer me,

Me, too. She's a favorite saint.
Last week, I urged a fellow mylotter to pray the novena of Therese of the Little Flower. I told her I would pray with her. I do not know yet if her prayer was answered but lo and behold, the lass of Lisieux sent me roses, white and pink, from the heavenly garden. Ain't that wonderful!
