During lockdown i n India, long queues coud be seen in front of liquor shops. The revenue from the liquor was one of the highest for all the states in India during lockdown Liquor helps states earn more and revenue from liquor as a commodity doesn't come solely from what is sold. VAT (value-added tax) levied on liquor by states like Tamil Nadu, special fee charged on imported foreign liquor, transportation of liquor and registration of liquor brands etc are the secondary sources of revenue from alcohol. Alcohol consumption in India nearly touched 6.5 billion litres in 2020
