I remember reading R.L Stine's Fear Street and there was another series by Christopher Pike that was along similar lines. They were both good and I still enjoy them from time to time.
I found this particular series at Target one day and because they were Disney I just had to pick them up.
It's called the Disney Chills series and they're all by Vera Strange.
The first book in the series is called Part of Your Nightmare and it takes a look at a normal girl who wishes to be the fastest swimmer and is introduced to the Sea Witch Ursula.
We've all had that period of time. We're the new kid in school. No friends. Trying to keep the few that you have. Your home life became confusing because mom and dad separated.
Shelly Anderson was just trying to survive. Eleven years old and she takes care of her little brother since her parents are occupied with the aquarium that they own and their divorce.
At school she's the outcast. Sure her friends are popular and they're all on the swim team but for some reason she just can't seem to swim fast enough. She can't beat her arch rival and if she doesn't help her team win the regionals, the captain will hold her responsible for not being able to have a party.
It's very stressful.
When Shelly finds the nautilus that leads her to Ursula's cave, as much as she wants to say no...she can't seem to find a reason to.
What harm could wanting to want to be the fastest swimmer do?
Shelly quickly learns that every wish can have a down side. Instead of just being the fastest swimmer, Shelly is quickly discovering that she's becoming a fish.
Ursula granted her wish in exchange for a favor to be called in at later date. That date is after Shelly discovers her gills and webbed hands and feet. Ursula wants the trident that lies in the main exhibit of the aquarium.
Shelly has two days to get it or she becomes a fish forever.
With the help of a few friends that she didn't even realize she had until it was too late, will she be able to beat this curse?
Read this at your own risk. Remember not all Disney tales have a happy ending.

I enjoyed it. It's young adult or really probably kids but it was interesting.
