…That these weren’t the “Badlands” Bruce Springsteen was singing about! For only the second time in my life I’m in the Mountain Time Zone. The highlight of the afternoon, after the beautiful drive along Interstate 90 through South Dakota, was Badlands National Park. I showed my Access pass (memo to disabled veterans in the US: those are free to you ) and entered the park. The landscape simply overwhelmed me. I wept as I praised God for the incredible landscape. Also along the way I saw “Roberts Prairie Dog Town,” which really lived up to its name. I thought the wind was blowing the grass at first, then I noticed some of them standing up. The prairie dog isn’t a dog but a rodent more akin to a squirrel than a rat. Cute critters!!! And holy buffalo, Batman! My first bison viewing was just outside the main gate. Oh, it would hardly be my last, though, as they were out in full force, grazing on grass. I also saw a couple of not-all-that-large large-horned sheep in the park. One looked like he’d been in a fight or 20. To cap it all off, just LOOK AT THAT SUNSET!!!! I’m in Rapid City, SD, now, ready to use that extra hour I picked up crossing into mountain time for some sleep. That is, if I can stop thanking God for the unbelievably beautiful day. PHOTOS (and trust me, they don’t come close to doing justice to it): 1. The other-worldly landscape in Badlands National Park. 2. Bison moving along the side of the road. 3. Prairie dogs enjoying the late afternoon. 4. The sunset. PS: the Springsteen “Badlands”:

AMAZING photos! I love the prairie dogs and the bison. I haven't been on MyLot in months, so I'm sure I've missed many posts, but where are you headed after Rapid City? Black Hills? I went to Theodore Roosevelt NP in ND and saw a ton of bison and prairie dogs earlier this year...Was super sweet! Safe travels and keep taking these amazing photos.

Deadwood! And Mt. Rushmore. I’m hoping to make it to Little Bighorn, too. At least!

They are quite large, they were as tall as my car. It’s a completely different landscape than what I’m used to.

love the song!!! The Badlands, that is a park I've only traversed one time. (after wandering past Mt Rushmore we drove and drove and deove) it is however a park that sticks with you.
