Just out - the Philippines Maria Ressa shares the Nobel Peace Prize with fellow journalist Russian Dmitry Muratov for their courage under fire to express the truth amid repression. Maria Ressa, we stand witness to your bravery despite the odds in a country reeling from the killings of the marginalized. Thank you, sheer genius! Watching 'A Thousand Cuts' again tonight.
They win 'for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace'

True that she is the only person that srood out and stand her ground against the admin. Her winning the nobel peace prize just shows she is on the right travk and this admin just got the biggest insult that the international community is trying to show.

@eileenleyva yes if they just allowed Maria Ressa to do her thing as a reporter then the whole world would have not noticed that and she would not have won the price but they harassed her to the point that the whole world noticed.

@rsa101 Not necessarily correct since Maria Ressa has produced outstanding journalism since 1995. Her investigative journalism followed terrorism in Southeast Asia as training grounds to attack America. Somehow, she foresaw the 9/11 of 2001. Maria Ressa has been recipient of many other awards. Even her fellow journalists admit that Maria Ressa is a caliber unto her own. The speed of mind, the brilliance - none compares.

That is very true. But you know what, the crazy supporters of the monstrous creature are using logic to vent the praise on the monster. It goes: If not for the monster, Maria Ressa would not have acted the way she did, ergo, credit the monster. Grrrrr!

Atmosphere euphoric especially so in our Benedictine community where Maria received her formative education. Yup, we wore the same uniform!. Gosh, I am so proud of her.

We shed tears of joy after the initial shock. Maria Ressa has ten arrests because of false charges against her, including tax evasion. But she face it all. This Nobel Peace Prize sort of vindicates her. Thank you.

It was just a fortnight ago when I was expressing to my daughter my desire to have a Filipino win a Nobel Prize. Wella, my prayer was granted and it couldn't come more heartily because Maria Ressa wore the same uniform as I did in our formative years. In my country beset with so much hardship and struggle, this means jubilation. Can't express my elation enough!

She's a local journalist who also confronted Mark Zuckerberg for his irresponsible handling of facebook as a social media tool. Currently, fb is under fire.
