So, this is how Skynet begins....

For those of you that don't recognize the term "Skynet" it's from the "Terminator" frnchise of movies. You know, the movies where AI becomes self-aware and tries to obliterate humankind through advanced robots that look like Arnold Schwartzenager.
Amazon has a "robot" out now, called "Astro" - and I really don't understand much about it from this article - https://www.zdnet.com/article/getting-to-know-amazons-astro/
- I used to think it was like an Alexa speaker on wheels with a tablet. According to the article it doesn't talk for itself... so... it's less functional than I thought it was going to be. I really don't know why someone would want to spend $1,000 on it , sure it can work as a surveillance camera, make video calls, and check if your stove is off (alright, that's pretty cool)... but... ???
If this goes like tech stuff usually does, there will be a new, cooler model, that does more stuff relatively soon.
What's your opinion?

I agree it does not seem that much worth it right now.
But as we know, they are always making improvements.
Those things are snooping on people too

I think you're right. I think my phone is creepy enough by itself lol. And this one has a webcam and wheels so it can look in on you

My opinion is to wait until the functionality goes up and the price comes down.

Good thought. It won't be too long and we'll see "Astro"'s littering garage sales and, eventually, even free boxes.

Oh wow, I didn't know there was a real business of the same, Skynet, name.
I'm familiar with it as a fictional business from the "Terminator" movies featuring Arnold Schwartzenager. They're science fiction movies - in which technology becomes "aware" and starts a war on humanity. The originial software to do this within the movie was called "Skynet"

yeah, lol, meh. If someone wants it, cool.... but I don't get the desire for an Alexa speaker on wheels
