My country, South Africa is often referred to as "The Rainbow Nation" because of the diversity in the population. The country consists of many different groups that have blended together to create a multicultural nation. There are indigenous people, African, Europeans, and Asians. There are different races, religions and cultures. The rainbow nation is a phrase that was coined by the African National Congress (ANC) after the election of Nelson Mandela as president in 1994. The ANC adopted this term to symbolize South Africa's cultural diversity which had been ignored during apartheid. The people of South Africa are made up of many different ethnic groups. The most commonly known groups include Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaner and English. South Africa has 11 official languages and they're all thought in schools, and they're also equal in terms of the constitution. What is the nickname of your country and why was it given the name?

Well, in Ireland it is called "The Emerald Aisle" because of it's green countryside. And in the Philippines where I came from it is called "The Pearl of the Orient Sea" because it's the second-largest city i Southeast Asia.
