She Carries With Her

She carries with
Her a grief
She does
Not quite
Understand
A child
In an adult
Body
She feels so
Lost.
She carries with
Her an inner pain
She can’t quite
Put into words
A little girl
Wanting to reach
Out
As she feels
Like shes drowning.
She wants
To turn
To the one
She’s always turned
Too
But the finality
Of loss
Hasn’t fully
Hit her.
She has those
Who will stand
Beside her
Carry her through
But how do
They make her
Understand
Some goodbyes
Are goodbye
Until she too
Goes gentle
Into that
Goodnight.

A long time friend of mine, whose developmentally disabled… leaving her functioning mentally at about an 8 to 12 year old level lost her Mom, last Tuesday, I talked to her later that evening and it was obvious that on some letters she understood what was happening and on other levels she didn’t. Her Mother was a remarkable woman who is dearly missed….

That leaves me with tears in my eyes. I will pray to God to give the child the strength and protect. And for the mother's soul to rest in peace.

My friend lost her Mother, she’s very lost and confused, that’s the point of the poem, thank you for your kind words though.
