Is it important to get close to a co-worker?

I always wonder, is it important to get close to our co-workers? I'm a very difficult person to get along with, so during my work I'll only talk to my co-wokers about work. When they talk about things outside of work I rarely even never talk to them. Is that weird? In my vision of the four months I've been working, they include people who like to talk about other people in the back. Therefore, I don't need to make any relationships too close to them. I don't think I need to be closed-minded, either. I mean we should meet every day, so yeah I just need to get along with them naturally. No need to get too close and not too quiet What about you guys? Are you close with your coworkers?

I am friendly with my coworkers and share a good rapport. But I am not comfortable invading people's personal space and I can't talk behind backs. So, I would stay out of such situations and even discourage if someone is doing that.

That's right, but even so I can't stop them from telling someone off. I keep quiet, it's none of my business anyway.

@Shxrubia I sometimes politely do that. We have more fun things to do and talk than to talk about a third person on his/ her back. I am not comfortable doing it and even when someone else is doing.

It's entirely your decision and you are right in your thinking. It varies from person to person as everyone has different nature. I was close with my coworkers. We use to talk about other things and have fun but not saying bad about others

I can't trust my coworkers as they gossip a lot. All I discuss with them is job related

It's a bit weird to me as I am very sociable and will talk about anything and everything. I am retired now but still meet up with some of the people I used to work with. However I don't like the back stabbing you get between workers and we only remember happy times when we worked together. Having said that we are all different and if you prefer to only talk about work then that's fine. Do what makes you happy.

@Shxrubia Definitely. I think when a lot of women work together there is back stabbing.

You're right, I'm glad you're able to hang out with your co-workers despite your retirement. That's a good thing. But if our coworkers are not too kind, it would be best to distance ourselves from them.

It depends, whether you can get close to coworkers was decided by the fact whether yous have sth in common, such as common thoughts, common hobby, and so forth.common points can make yous close.however,in my case,I didn't get close with any coworkers,we just keep contact at work, after work,we lived own life repectively. So,nothing in common except work.

I think it's better like that, i prefer it to be just a co-worker and not really relate when it's off-duty.

I'm choosy when it's comes to co workers. Because i noticed to my co workers they love to talk people and judge them and i don't like it. It's better to be alone. And have one trust co workers.

Most coworkers are like that, we just need to keep our distance from them and not have to talk needlessly

This is a good policy. Be polite but keep the distance. I've become good friends with many of my co workers. But you want to be able to focus on your job not too many other distractions
