I found enjoyment from my own pain

Once again being from that decade of the 70's. I found that we were a generation of misfits and had a deep criminal code in bedded in our souls. There was families of course that did no wrong. ( that came to light ) There's no excuses for the things I had learned. As I learned them I was told that many times. So therefore there's none! As with most things done then it wasn't done out of hate or anger. It may appear that way to some yet I promise it was not. Being mischievous is one thing. That is not what we were. We were from a small town where the stores closed at dark and the bars lit up! You couldn't get a soda after dark unless it was with a shot whiskey. Even though I was only a child unbelievably it was available. Most people parents in this town were divorced and or just not around. We had seen leave it to beaver, and the Cosby ( who ever thought ) . That was not our life. As the 70's were ending the 80's was starting something new. You see the only thing different about our little villa was we did things and were held accountable. Where as the rest of the people were not. An even though the beatings, the fights an the hangovers seemed life threatening. I found enjoyment in them an my life to be was on a fast track to be

Those who experience changes in civilization and culture usually get a more perfect experience.

@myklj999 . Thank you for your advice. I did go and read the links you directed me to. I have to ask since you posted this on every thing I have posted. Do you think I have violated some rule somehow? If so would you say so. Because I read them all and don't think so? Thank you for your advice

I can relate to what you are saying here. It is your memories and how your life was. I feel the same about where I grew up there in Missouri too.

Missouri is full of small towns. These towns have their own way of justice . Some never get it and others get the wrong kind.. thank you for your comment .

And, now no one wants to hold anyone accountable for anything.

@Rickbmad Not a problem. I wish it wasn't this way, but due to research, apparently disipline and teaching respect, is dangerous to a kid's mental health.

@kaylachan that is where I was going with it also. The children of today are for the most part good healthy ,respectful young adults. Then there's the rest of them. That if they have ever had any discipline it backfired and caused them to be more disrespectful, self entitled , complainers.. My children were taught there's always an alternative to being disrespectful, That when it's hard to do , it will be more valuable after it's done. Never take things for granted. And all these things require is to think before act. I believe that my wife and I are blessed and have worked hard for that blessing. We worked and were united on our decisions while being consistent with our expectations of them. Therefore we have all ours to graduate an some college. They made it through their teens without legal problems or having babies. So they did get to enjoy being kids.

It does seem that way. It's almost a crime to ask for respect. The accountability level has been gone for a very long time. Thank you for your reply

Not all 70s generations are misfits. You are but others are not. It's good for you that you find joy in your pain. For others it's a different thing. Anyway, you're new here. Welcome and enjoy the fun here.

@Rickbmad Because you wrote "I found that we were a generation of misfits..." That word "we" is misleading. It's inclusive of "all" . But if you say "some" that be true. That's okay. I'm not offended.

@Nakitakona I'm glad your not offended . That was not my intention. When I use the word " we" in my discussions it is in reference to the people that were directly involved. I will be more attentive to the words I use for now on.

I did not say all were misfits the others were complete opposite. That is what made the 70's so different to have experienced. As I am new here you say it as if there is some kind of generosity of forgiveness for something I have done wrong. If you were offended by my discussion I can say I apologize & move on. Thank you for your observation.
