Even though the name Ron Smith who was nicknamed "Itchy" played high school basketball who led his high school basketball team to a state championship in 1960 in Camden New Jersey is not a household name nationwide, Ron has the honor of having his jersey number retired which is number 44 as well as a street renamed in his honor.
Ron is being remembered by members of his community in Camden not just for his ability to play high school basketball with such an amazing ability to lead his high school basketball team to a state championship in 1960, Ron is being praised by his son Andre as not only a great dad to him but a humble human being who put Camden on the map by making a difference in his hometown.
I can understand a former major sports star who played sports in the professional level having a stadium, award or street named in their honor or memory.
It is nice to know that a high school basketball player in New Jersey has the honor of having a street named in his honor do to being a person that made a difference in his community without making a big deal to the public just to get some attention.

It is since most sports stars who have anything named after their honor or memory is because they served their communities through charity work.
