In 1957 Buddy Holly and The Crickets were at number one on the UK singles chart with "That'll Be the Day" The song was inspired by a trip to the movies with Holly, Jerry Allison and Sonny Curtis in 1956. The musicians were inspired by John Wayne in the movie "The Searchers" and the phrase "that'll be the day." In 1964 31-year-old Salvatore Philip Bono married 18-year-old Cherilyn Sarkisian La Piere. They began performing together as Caesar and Cleo until later they became the popular musical act, Sonny and Cher. In 1966 The Four Tops were at number one on the UK singles chart with "Reach Out I'll Be There" In 1973 Gladys Knight and the Pips were at number one on the US singles chart with "Midnight Train to Georgia" It won the 1974 Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance By a Duo, Group, or Chorus. The song became Gladys Knight's signature song. In 1975 Bruce Springsteen came out with the single and album Born to Run The artist had the rare honor of simultaneous covers on both Time and Newsweek magazines in the US In 1977 Baccara was at number one on the UK singles chart with 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie". They were the first Spanish act to get a UK number one and also the first female duo to do so. In 2006 Amy Winehouse came out with her second and final studio album Back to Black. The album featured five singles 'Rehab', 'You Know I'm No Good', 'Back to Black', 'Tears Dry on Their Own' and 'Love Is a Losing Game' and won Best Pop Vocal Album at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. In 2014 The Last Ship a musical by Sting about shipbuilding in northeast England opened on Broadway in NYC. The celebrities in the first night audience at the Neil Simon Theater included the former frontman from The Police, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Blondie's Deborah Harry. In 2019 Scottish singer and songwriter Lewis Capaldi was at number one on the US singles chart with "Someone You Loved"

@RasmaSandra Yes, back then many of the big acts were appearing in small venues such as Leo's Casino -- saw many big stars there.

He's leaving, on a midnight train to Georgia. that song was one that I heard many years ago, it is one that I have come to realize speaks more to dreams and love, than many other great romantic ballads.
