Dhanteras is a pious day for Hindus. Many Hindus feed the cows with flour, pigeons, sparrows, doves with lentils and birdfeed. Houses are cleaned because the occasion is followed by Laxmipuja. Fresh curtains are used the rooms are cleaned. Many Hindus buy metals like brass, copper silver or gold on the auspicious day.
