Anyone Pplays Violin?

Anyone out here plays violin? I've been wanting to learn play violin since a long time..I did start with Indian Classical, but didn't find it much exciting as Western Classical. As of now, I've already bought one & was wanting to start learning on my own..does anyone has any hints/notes/references which may of use to me? Please let me know..

I did not even try to learn on my own. I pay for weekly lessons and I am pretty sure that I would not be as far as I am without them. My teacher points out weaknesses that I need to work on, suggests methods of practice, and each week I improve in that area, most of the time. First it was bowing, and my right hand stiffness, then the pressure needed on the strings as I bow, and to keep the bloody thing parallel to the bridge and not go all over the place.
My favorite part is when she plays with me. Having an experienced player to adjust my own notes to, I don't sound half bad.
