The Staggering Cost of Fuel

At first I thought nothing of it as the radio announcers report Monday mornings that fuel prices will rise again. Till last Friday when I refueled full tank and the digital liter cost showed PhP 2K. I was, of course, shocked! The usual full tank was just a thousand pesos. That only means that the basic commodities has also inflated, which, because I am not longer bread winner, I have not given the matter attention.

We had been tightening the belt for so long, especially this pandemic time. People have come to depend on community pantries. There are so many beggars now on the streets.

@db20747 The peso rate is now fifty to a dollar. That means we Filipinos have to work fifty times harder to get food on our table. The unfortunate fact that we have so many corrupt officials have made the pandemic health crisis more unbearable to so many marginalized people. That is why they resorted to begging. The community pantries are initiatives of ordinary citizens to keep the poor from begging.

@Shavkat If the people doesn't react, the youth will suffer. Have you noticed that in the past weeks the sermons on the pulpits had been subliminally or directly castigating the 'halang ang sikmura' who continue to feast on the blood, sweat, and tears of the marginalized in society?

The cost of a litre of fuel here is around USD 1.03 which includes a tax imposed by the Government to finance the purchase of vaccines.

@eileenleyva Exactly it should've come from the Government. The imposition of the tax is a strategy for the Government to earn revenue which may not necessarily be used to procure vaccines

That is strange. The cost of vaccine must come from the coffers of the government for health crisis.

If only our infrastructures are pedestrian friendly, I will walk or bike. It's really difficult here for people without rides. Commuting is like a daily battle.

Fuel, like other things, has sure climbed in price. We just have to grin and bear it.

I am in the US and have no idea how much that is in US dollars. Our gas prices are rising as well and are between $3.19 - $3.29 a gallon in US dollars.

The fuel tank capacity of my vehicle is 42 liters. That's worth PhP 2k which is something like $40.
