Day 159
Psalm 19:1 (To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.) The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handywork.
2 Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night shows knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoices as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Many people, when they pray, ask only for their needs. They don’t praise God for who He is or the many things He did for them or recount God’s marvelous work.
David showed the nature of God. He praised Him for what He did and who He is and then asked God to keep him from presumptuous sin. He finished by asking God to let his words and meditation be acceptable to God.
As Christians, you need to stop treating God as someone who will give you whatever you desire, whether or not it’s good for you. Just because you ask for something, doesn’t mean He will grant your request. He isn’t a magic genie to grant your every wish.
Yes, there were times when David asked God to deliver him from his enemies in the heat of battle. In those times of desperate prayer, he also acknowledged God’s sovereignty.
When you take time to pray, take time to dwell on God’s goodness, all the blessings He gave you. How He took you from where you were to where you are today. When you do, you will find you reached God’s heart and He will give you the desires of your heart because you honor Him.
John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.
Whatever you ask for must glorify the Father. If it doesn’t, you won’t get your request.
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he who wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.
David took time to acknowledge God’s greatness. He praised God continually and showed who God is. When you do the same, you will find blessings in your life beyond imagination, and your needs and desires met.
Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.
When you put God first in all your thoughts and actions, He will be with you and take care of you. You won’t need to fear anything a man can or will do to you.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV)
Let’s pray: Father, too often I approach You with my agenda, expecting You to fulfill my requests. Help me praise You and give You honor for who You are, my Savior, my Redeemer, my Refuge, and my Strength. I cannot do anything without Your help. Let everything I do and say be pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
