This flight is halfway over! That’s right, we’re at the halfway point of this countdown of songs with “fly” in the title. This countdown was suggested by @JamesHxstatic , and I want to thank him. I hope he’s enjoying this. Here’s today’s song. #6: Flying Over Water - Jason Isbell I got to see this guy right at the right time: just before his star took off. I’d had my ticket for some time, and by the time the show came along the gig was sold out because Jason Isbell was becoming a hot property. Rightfully so, too, IMO. His chronicle of his rehab, Southeastern, was making the top of many critics’ “best of” lists for 2013. Man, what a powerful album. The former Drive-By Truckers member has done himself quite well, winning Grammy awards (although not for this album, inexplicably) and becoming a major superstar in the Americana/alt-country world. (Of course, that doesn’t mean you have heard of him. ) Trying a new life of marriage and sobriety (“where’s that liquor cart?”) has a fear that translated to a great song for Isbell.
