So much hype and expectation over this Marvel Universe new movie release of its Asian comic superhero Shang-Chi that my daughter waited with the excitement of a child back in September. She was only able to secure a copy last week and we watched in style - the viewing room prepped for a marvelous experience. Not even a pop corn is allowed for disturbance.
Oh well. My daughter was glad that she finally got to see the actors and the martial arts and learned of the legend of the ten rings.
But as for me, the feeling was down trodden as I was ushered once again to a story about rings only left wanting for grandeur supposed to be magical.
Anyway, I saw my daughter watching the 'making of Shang-Chi' and it would be unfair to criticize the efforts of the production team, especially the arts and costume department, as well as the stunts and martial arts experts. However, for a movie buff, after all the oohhs and the aahhs in Iron Man and the Avengers, I would have expected something as grand.
Yesterday though, my daughter turned my garden into Ta Lo, the magical village of supernatural powers where Shang-Chi's mother hailed from. That's the cutest thing in the movie - the meeting of Shang-Chi's parents that sparked the romance.

@Nawsheen The Marvel Universe fans swooned about it, I gather. I rest my case. I'd rather watch The Mummy and Shanghai Noon.

Too much to absorb in one movie that the characters were built in haste. The movie rushed everything such as incorporating Asian family values with the freer lifestyle of the West. Consequently, the whole Ta Lo battle scenes conflicted with the alienation of the father and the son.
The villain was supposed to be all powerful.

Shang-Chi, the movie, has actually been written from an American, or Californian, standpoint because the superhero is a San Franciscan. It's an inculturation of some sorts of east-west the twain did meet which I find brilliant. An underlying theme the world audience needs. Impeccable.
