Of all days, Red Wednesday has become my cheat day.

I couldn't help it because my sugar was dropping and I could already see that big blob when I close my eyes, so I asked my daughter to order food right away, and the only quick meal we could have delivered is from a cuisine nearby. That's a Filipino fiesta favorite - paella with shrimps, clams, and squid. Very oily but super tasty. I ate only three tablespoons. The one in the round container is sinantol, an appetizer. The other in the rectangular food keeper is called 'ginataang puso ng saging' or shredded banana's heart simmered in coconut milk. Flavorful and spicy. On the big box is the 'okoy,' a fried shrimp with camote strips dipped in vinegar. I ate lots till I felt full. What accounts for my sugar dropping? The garden work. I tilled some soil and made another compost for vermiculture. That serves as my feltilizer. Plus, I rearranged some pots for aesthetic purposes. My garden has to look lovely for Christmas. Then, after a warm bath, I lazed on the bed for a good rest and heard Mass. You see, it's Red Wednesday today, a designated day to commemorate the sacrifice of martyrs persecuted all the long two thousand and twenty-one years of Christianity. Believe it when the reports say that Christians in Afghanistan are being hundted right now. Some have already died for the faith. The same is true in China where communism is eradicating all religions. I could have eaten a sumptuous lunch on a Red Wednesday but I still offered all my joys and graces for the martyrs faithful to our God. Have a blessed day everyone!

I never knew about Red Wednesday. Thank you for sharing about it. You should take some regular breaks while working in the garden. I love seafood and your meal looks so appetizing

I love to dilly-dally with each and every plant, sort of talk to them and thank them for blooming flowers or emitting oxygen for me. Paella is sinful but satisfying. I have to watch my intake. Sometimes, I just have to cheat eating the forbidden food. Hay!

@eileenleyva I heard that talking to your plant could help support their growth. Even I'm on diet and I have cheat days one day per week else I will die

@Nawsheen That is true. Plants and trees are living creatures also and need to be communicated with. Yay! At least I'm not the only 'cheat' when it comes to dieting. I also feel I'd soon be in my grave without my comfort food. My daughters hate that line.

We need to control more. Christmas is fast approaching. Drink water first before eating.

That looks good. I think it's important to have a "cheat day" every once in a while.

I had to drink lots of water afterwards. You are correct. The cheat day must only be once in a while. A long, long while actually. Else The health cannot be compromised. Cheat day has consequences.

Just a local grill in my community. Like a classy carinderia. The grill has not spread far and wide yet. Hoping it would one day.

@merrybelle2021 A bit pricey, too. But then I ate in small portions which means that makes for supper also. Just the right price for two or three meals. There's more paella for breakfast.

@eileenleyva I agree it's classy. I like how they did not skimp on the seafood for the paella, and I love the sweet potato mixed with the shrimp for the fritter.

We inherited the paella from the Spaniards, the okoy from the Chinese but the shredded banana heart in coco juice spiced and salted and the sinantol, an appetizer preserved from the santol fruit are both Filipino. This combo is truly a hearty meal.

@sinari I believe that anything cooked wit coconut juice is always good. The viand is a little spicy but very good.
